Statement by BC Conservative Leader Scott Anderson on Freedom of Speech
BC Conservative Party Interim Leader Scott Anderson today issued the following statement on the importance of preserving freedom of speech in Canada:
"Every citizen of BC should have a right to freedom of expression and religion restricted only by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Free societies must always foster an unhindered exchange of ideas, even when some may find those ideas offensive. We have witnessed universities and organizations here in British Columbia and across Canada struggling with limits to free expression and it is important that we undertake to always err on the side of freedom and never on the side of limitation. Once a society becomes entrenched in an orthodoxy of thought and expression, even with the best of intentions, it is no longer a free society."
