A doubling of drug overdose deaths isn’t just unacceptable, these numbers are deplorable says Conservative BC leader Trevor Bolin

“This isn’t just unacceptable”, observed Bolin, “These numbers are deplorable.”

With the latest report on drug overdose deaths, by the BC Coroners Service, Conservative BC leader Trevor Bolin is once again calling for immediate changes to be made.

While previous governments have wasted funds warehousing people, to hide the problem, we need to deal with this issue and the underlying cause head on”, Bolin stated.

According to the BC Coroners Service drug overdose deaths more than doubled from 60 in September 2019, to 127 in 2020

“This isn’t just unacceptable”, observed Bolin, “These numbers are deplorable.”

BC’s Conservatives have been calling for real change to be made, and that same call was made once again when Bolin and False Creek candidate Erik Gretland paid a visit to Pigeon Park in downtown Vancouver yesterday (Oct 19th).

For years, communities large and small across B.C. have been asking the provincial government for help battling local addictions and overdose deaths, but to no avail”, said Bolin.

How long are we going to let this suffering continue?”, asked Bolin.

It’s no wonder then that we continue to see our family members and loved ones dying with out the help they need”, Bolin observed.

BC’s Conservative MLA’s will work with communities, local government and stakeholders – including support groups and individuals - to ensure treatment and rehabilitation facilities are put in place.

Only then, by taking this hands-on Made in BC approach, will we find the solutions that are need”, Bolin concluded.
