‘In this day and age how can another woman sit by and think these kinds of remarks are okay’, says Langley Conservative candidate Shelly Jan

The story of ... prominent Liberals who listened and laughed as candidate Jane Thornthwaite offered up a sexualized and belittling story about a female political rival, New Democrat Bowinn Ma, during a roast for a retiring MLA ... is not going away, and rightly so.

According to numerous media reports, Mary Polak, who has represented the riding of Langley for the past 15 years, has been quoted saying she didn’t object at the time because the comments were made during a simple online comedy roast for retiring Ralph Sultan.

Shelly Jan, a candidate for BC’s Conservatives in the same Langley riding, thinks otherwise however.

I agree with the remarks of former Conservative MP Diane Watts, and who also ran for leadership of the provincial Liberals. The comments made were indeed ‘absolutely unacceptable, sexist, and not the least bit funny’. In this day and age how can another woman sit by and think these kinds of remarks are okay”, Jan remarked.

I want to say to Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson, you need to take action, and to condemn the remarks which were in fact made in your presence”.

Do it now, and do it today”, Jan concluded.
